USING YOUR FIREBOARD THERMOMETER IS SIMPLE!

Power On the Unit

On the FBX11, hold the power button for 3 seconds. For the FBX2 models, press any of the side buttons.

Connect Your Probes

Once temperature probes are connected, the FireBoard will begin pushing temperature data, starting a session.

The Getting Started section of our Knowledge Base has detailed instructions on how to begin using your FireBoard, including how to create your FireBoard account and activate your FireBoard.

GENERAL USE

WILL IT WORK WITH MY PHONE/TABLET?

FireBoard requires that your mobile device is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0+ hardware and runs either iOS or Android. To use FireBoard on your Apple product, make sure your device is one of the following with iOS8 or later:

  • iPhone 4s
  • iPad (3rd generation)
  • iPad mini
  • iPod touch (5th generation)

To use your FireBoard on an Android device, make sure your device is on Android 5.0 or later and is equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0+ radio.

Visit our Knowledge Base for more information about getting connected to Bluetooth.

Can I use the FireBoard with my gas, propane, or charcoal grill?

Absolutely! The thermistor temperature probes are rated up to 572°F, which should be satisfactory for most cooks on a grill. Temperatures inside of some grills may exceed the probe ratings, especially over a direct flame, so please use caution as you approach those higher temperatures.

HOW HOT CAN THE FIREBOARD GET?

The thermistor probes and cables that come with the FireBoard are rated from 0°F to 572°F (-18° to 300°C). We also offer RTD versions of our probes that are rated from -58°F to 716°F (-50° to 380°C). Learn more about our probes here.

The FireBoard unit itself is rated to 140°F (60°C); according to our laboratory testing, we believe the device should withstand temperatures in excess of this rating. Despite those tests, certain components used within the FireBoard are only rated up to 140°F (60°C).

IS THE FIREBOARD WEATHER RESISTANT?

The FireBoard 2 series models (FBX2, FBX2D, FBX2K) are all weather resistant, but not waterproof. The technical definition of water resistant is that it is able to resist the penetration of water to a certain degree, but not entirely.

The FireBoard (FBX11) unit itself is not weather resistant; while it does perform well in many conditions, if you anticipate rain or heavy moisture we recommend the FireBoard Case.

CAN THE FIREBOARD BE USED WITHOUT CLOUD MONITORING?

Yes, the FireBoard also works over Bluetooth (direct to phone). More information about Bluetooth Connectivity can be found on our Knowledge Base.

Battery & Power

HOW DO YOU TURN ON/OFF THE FIREBOARD?

The FireBoard FBX11 turns on by holding the power button for 3 seconds. To power it down, also hold the power button for 3 seconds.

For FBX2 models, press any button to power on. To power down, hold any button until a menu displays on screen. Press the button next to “Power Off”.

How long does the device take to charge? How long does the battery last?

The FireBoard should take between 4-6 hours to charge. The charging and power behavior of the FBX11 and FBX2 units is similar to a cell phone, where the device can be powered from USB and also recharge at the same time. The device will automatically turn on when it is plugged into USB Power.

The FireBoard’s Li-Ion rechargeable battery should last approximately 30 hours for FBX2 units and 24hours for the FBX11.

Connectivity

WHAT TYPE OF BLUETOOTH CONNECTION DOES THE FIREBOARD UTILIZE?

The FireBoard utilizes a Bluetooth 4.0 (Bluetooth Low Energy) Profile to communicate between the mobile app and the FireBoard. With a BLE connection, the pairing process of entering a password is no longer needed. The mobile app will automatically scan and find FireBoard devices via BLE. If you run into issues with discovering devices, in the worst case, you can force close the app, turn your Bluetooth on/off (e.g. airplane mode) and try to connect again. More information about Bluetooth Connectivity can be found on our Knowledge Base.
