Made for KC BBQ Championship
There are BBQ competitions. There are BBQ competitions that have prestige. And then there are BBQ competitions that have stakes far beyond a traditional BBQ competition.
Introducing: Made for KC BBQ Championship
The qualifications for this event are a bit unique. The pitmasters must reside within 80 miles of Kansas City International Airport.
What do airplanes have to do with BBQ. For this event… a lot!
The winner of the Made for KC BBQ Championship not only receives a $10,000 check, but they also get to sign an 18 month agreement to be the featured pitmaster at the Made for KC BBQ Experience at KCI airport. With this contract, the pitmaster gets to showcase their name, recipes, rubs and sauces to the world travellers coming through the airport. The money is nice, but the ongoing exposure is something few pitmasters get to experience.
This year, the event headed back to Holladay Distillery in Weston, MO the host for the event. 43 teams competed for the grand prize, including FireBoard partners, Burnt Finger BBQ and Blind Fox BBQ who placed 3rd overall and 7th overall respectively. The overall Grand Champion was FireBoard user Charles Bey of Smokey Bey’s BBQ who now has the honor at the airport! Congrats!
